I have always been interested in various forms of art to include painting, drawing and sculpting. I have also been interested in wood working and building things with my hands so when I was looking for a hobby, wood carving seemed to be a perfect fit. I remember taking a trip to my local wood carving supply store and coming across this club and its members having a meeting there. I will never forget how friendly our former president Bob Tilton was when he asked me what I was interested in learning to carve. I told him I wanted to carve faces like Wood spirits. Then he gave me the wow factor as he carved a face into a small block of wood within a couple of minutes. I knew right there and then that wood carving is what I wanted to do.

Since then I have learned different skills from different club members and entered my carvings in many competitions with acceptable success. I could have learned to carve on my own and taken much longer to refine my skills but have really excelled my skills in part by the knowledge I have retained by being a member of the Alamo Area Woodcarvers Club. I can truly say that while in search of a Hobby I discovered a Passion.

Dian Clamp, Secretary

I was married for 50 years. My husband died 6 years ago. I am blessed
with a daughter and son-in-law, two granddaughters and 1 grandson-in-law. I have one brother. I have a great family.

For 25 years I was an upper-elementary school teacher. For 22 years I
taught in the Comal ISD at Bulverde Elementary and Bill Brown
Elementary.

At present I am a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Alamo Area Woodcarvers club. I am a member of Cornerstone Church and I also do volunteer work there.

I have always liked wood working and wood carving. To start with a piece (or pieces) of wood and end up with a product that is functional and pleasing is an awesome experience. Many times my designs don’t quite end up like I planned, but it is still an exciting - and learning - experience.

I am very glad to be a member of the Alamo Area Wood Carvers club. You are a great bunch of people.
